This book is a Maine small-town family drama, intertwined with social commentary and a sad sack character who should’ve been played by John Reilly in the big screen adaptation. It was entertaining in its own way, but it felt a little thin, perhaps because I couldn’t help but compare it to Richard Russo. Also because the big splashy crime turned out to be underwhelming and sad more than compelling and epic. On the whole, not terribly worth it.
